      <title>OESF has launched a matchmaking service</title>
      <link>http://www.oesf.biz/modules/news/index.php?page=article&amp;storyid=71</link>
      <description>To the news media
Press Release

28 January, 2011

General Incorporated Foundations Open Embedded Software FoundationOESF has launched a matchmaking servicebetween Android™ businesses&amp;#65374;across the globe and for the whole industries,with the increase of demand of Android™&amp;#65374;

General Incorporated Foundations Open Embedded Software Foundation (hereinafter called “OESF”; Location: Shinjuku-ward, Tokyo, Representative: MIURA Masataka) has launched OESF Makebiz Project, a matchmaking service between businesses. This aims to promote businesses of Android™, whose demand has been increasing dramatically since last year.

OESF has been receiving inquiries from various channels all along. Now we have come to conclude that an institution providing information and facilitation services for those who would like to conduct businesses of Android™ more systematically and effectively should be needed. Therefore, OESF Makebiz Project (hereinafter called “Makebiz Project”) has been set up.

In Makebiz Project’s website, OESF member companies’ information and various kinds of Android™ solutions, both of which are consolidated, can be browsed and searched. This enables non-OESF member companies as well as OESF member companies to find out appropriate companies with which you would like to conduct businesses on Android™. When non-OESF member companies find out interesting solutions and companies on the website, they can only fill out the inquiry on the website. Then, Makebiz Project will assist in setting them up with OESF member companies, so that you can contact the target companies and work with them directly*.
In addition, when you do not find appropriate solutions that you want, do make a contact with us so that Makebiz Project will help to search appropriate OESF member companies and let you connect with them.

Makebiz Project provides these as Android™ solutions;
&amp;#12539;Development of an Android™ terminal itself (hardware)
&amp;#65381;Linux platform for Android™, driver development for Android™ and modification of Android™ to what is unique to your own specification (NDK)
&amp;#65381;Porting existing products (e.g. middleware) to Android™
&amp;#65381;Development of Android™ applications (including connection with Crowd)Etc.
Makebiz Project will meet various needs and demands of what exactly you want for Android™ solutions and others, which are beyond the scope of embedding.

For the first, we will start this service in Japan where the number of OESF member companies is large. Then, we intend to develop the service of providing solutions on the global basis, especially in Asia, with translation into the target languages of the countries on an as-needed basis.

Apart from the enquiries on the web, we intend to hold “business matchmaking” regularly; we are aiming at playing a central role of a matchmaker of Android™-centered solution business.

We have launched the service on the below dedicated site;
http://makebiz.oesf.jp
(English site will be available soon.)

* OESF will assist to set you up with your target companies. However, we will not directly get involved in your contract negotiation.

      <title>OESF Launches Industry’s First Smart House Working Group Bringing Android™ into Smart House Arena</title>
      <link>http://www.oesf.biz/modules/news/index.php?page=article&amp;storyid=70</link>
      <description>Tokyo, Japan (January 20, 2011) - The Open Embedded Software Foundation (OESF), the leader in standardizing Android™ based embedded systems beyond smart phones, today announced launching Smart House Working Group (SHWG), industry’s first Working Group for advancing Android™ technology to simplify human lifestyle while saving energy and increasing security. The Working Group will create specifications and guidelines to establish interoperability among Android™ and various devices across different industries that are traditionally segmented. “This distinct new Working Group will help consumers find the latest devices that are certified to work with Android devices,” said Masataka Miura, Chairman of OESF. “Common labeling and compliance with such standard will further accelerate device manufacturers’ plans to rollout new products.”

The Working Group is open for OESF members and led by Ren Egawa, Chief Technical Officer, Novatec Corporation. He has a long history of contributions to international standard organizations and consumer electronics product development. “Mr. Egawa will be taking the reins of our key Working Group at an exciting time of converge among various digital technologies,” said Miura. “We look forward to benefiting from his diverse engineering experience and leadership skills.”

The Working Group plans to issue Notice of Proposed Standard-Making in March this year. <title>Development environment for embedded systems evolved to be compatible with Android 2.2</title>
      <link>http://www.oesf.biz/modules/news/index.php?page=article&amp;storyid=69</link>
      <description>Development environment for embedded systems evolved to be compatible with Android 2.2
&amp;#65374;Ultra-portable Android™ has been equipped, which makes integrated embedded devices possible much easier.&amp;#65374;

General Incorporated Foundations Open Embedded Software Foundation (hereinafter called “OESF”; Location: Shinjuku-ward, Tokyo, Representative: MIURA Masataka), which promotes to spread and develop Android™ embedded systems, has developed an integrated- development environment compatible with Android 2.2 called “OESF Platform Builder “.

Android™ is a software platform for smartphone, which Google Inc. developed. It has been released for free as open-source software and expected to increase its use in each area. However, Android™ is not structured to easily be diverted to various other embedded devices because it was specially made for smartphone. To load Android™ into embedded devices, developers are required in-depth knowledge when they customize it by understanding the interrelationships among each internal function, which became to be a barrier to developers.

Development environment of Android™ software for embedded systems called “OESF Platform Builder “(hereinafter called “OBP”), which OESF has released this time, is compatible with Android 2.2 and thus, it is notable that it enables developers to build an environment without deeper knowledge on internal structure of Android™. In addition to that, OPB has adopted ultra-portable Android™ of “Light Weight Android™” (hereinafter called “LWA”). It is difficult to load general Android™ into embedded devices of small amount of memory without modification because general Android™ has larger program size incorporating many different functions and applications. If you select a functionality that you would like to add based on LWA, you can use minimum size of Android™ made up only by necessary functions. Therefore, Android™ can be also useful for many simpler embedded devices than a mobile phone.

The development of OPB and LWA has done by OESF’s internal group of “System Core working group”, two of whose member companies of Atmark Techno, Inc (Location: Sapporo-city, Hokkaido, President: SANEYOSHI Tomohiro) and Something Precious, Inc. (Location: Sapporo-city, Hokkaido, CEO and President: KOGA Shinya) played the central roles of the development. OPB and LWA will be incorporated in the Android™ distribution of “OESF Embedded Master 3” for the third generation of embedded devices, which OESF released on 29 November 2010.

      <description>A road map of Android™ EM3 for embedded systems will be released

&amp;#65374;Linaro will be adopted for Linux kernel based on Android 2.2&amp;#65374;

General Incorporated Foundations Open Embedded Software Foundation (hereinafter called “OESF”; Location: Shinjuku-ward, Tokyo, Representative: MIURA Masataka), which will release a road map of the Embedded Master 3 (code name: Dorian) as the third version of Distribution for Android™ embedded systems that OESF is advancing the development now.

What will be adopted in the third version of the Embedded Master 3, is not only Android™ 2.2 as a base but also a Linux kernel developed by a Not For Profit organization (NFP), Linaro, which a British company, ARM, an American company, IBM, a Korean company, Samsung, etc set up. In order to develop devices equipped with Android™, porting of Linux as its kernel takes a lot of man-hours, which is required for each SoC vendor. Kernels are commonalized for various SoC vendors’ environments and adopting Linaro, which is compatible with a seemingly more to be adopted symmetric multiprocessor (SMP), makes reducing the porting workload and developing a system maximizing the CPU performances of a symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) as well.

In addition, for EM3, various extended functionalities, which each working group and project of OESF jointly develops, will be loaded sequentially.
&amp;#12539;	STB Framework
&amp;#12539;	Print Manager
&amp;#12539;	Graph / Chart Library
&amp;#12539;	OSGi Framework
&amp;#12539;	IP-Communication Framework
&amp;#12539;	Car Navigation Framework
Etc.

Moreover, we are going to define standard specification and reference model for MID (Mobil Internet Device), which is considered to be expanded rapidly in the future, and provide CTS (Compatibility Test Suite) for the specification. In terms of release schedule, the development base is being provided for each working group of OESF in this December, at the end of January 2011, it will be released to members and at the end of March 2011, it is going to be released publicly.

&amp;#9632; About Linaro
Linaro is a Not For Profit (NFP) Organization, which was founded by six companies of ARM, IBM, Samsung, an American company, Freescale Semiconductor, a Swiss company, ST-Ericsson and an American company, Texas Instruments.
